According to the statements released by the Punjab police, the fatal shooting of ASI Harjit Singh took place shortly after midnight on September 17. Witnesses claim that a group of assailants chased the officer on a motorbike around 9.30 p.m., eventually confronting him and opening fire at close range.

Investigators recovered an empty cartridge case at the location, which is being sent to the forensic lab for ballistics analysis. Blood patterns at the scene suggest a single bullet struck the officer’s neck from behind, a finding that will be confirmed by the forthcoming post‑mortem report.
