Party leader says democracy allows protests, promises voters will decide on India Block’s anti‑SIR rallies
When asked about India Block’s plan to organise a country‑wide protest against the SIR issue, Samik Bhattacharya reaffirmed the democratic principle that every individual and organisation has the right to voice its concerns.
"In a healthy democracy people may take to the streets, hold rallies and stage sit‑ins," Bhattacharya told reporters. "The Election Commission, the judiciary and the party will each perform their duties, and the ultimate verdict will be delivered at the ballot box."
He added that the BJP will stay focused on its own programme of service and outreach, while respecting the constitutional right of others to demonstrate. "The electorate will decide whether the protest movement has merit," he said, implying that any legal or political fallout will surface during the upcoming polls.
The statement came as the party prepared for a series of mass meetings, torch‑processions and community service events across West Bengal, all aimed at reinforcing the BJP’s narrative ahead of the by‑elections.
