Delhi’s ‘Shishtachar’ Squad to Conduct Spot Checks on Public Transport and Hotspots

In an effort to protect women from petty crimes in public spaces, Delhi Police’s “Shishtachar” squad will intensify spot checks on buses, metro stations and other transit points. The Thursday briefing highlighted the need for random inspections, direct interaction with drivers, conductors and commuters, and swift documentation of any harassment incidents. District DCPs have been tasked with continuously updating maps of vulnerable zones and adjusting squad deployments accordingly. The squad will operate on a preventive, intervention and victim‑support model, with female officers sometimes positioned in civilian attire to act as decoys. Strengthening ties with resident welfare associations, NGOs and volunteer groups is also a priority to ensure community‑driven vigilance.
