Delhi government plans simultaneous river‑front development and Yamuna cleaning

Delhi officials have confirmed that the clean‑up of the Yamuna will proceed in tandem with ambitious river‑front development initiatives. Pravesh Varma explained that multiple departments have already begun coordinated work on parks, cycling tracks, ghats, recreational zones and sports fields along the proposed Yamuna riverfront. The plan draws lessons from Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Riverfront, where similar infrastructure upgrades were implemented. The minister also highlighted that, unlike the Sabarmati, the Yamuna project must contend with a larger population and higher sewage loads, making the challenges proportionately greater. Nevertheless, the government aims to complete major river‑front amenities before the next electoral cycle.
