Three-Year Tree Plantation Drive Targets Long‑Lived Species in Delhi Ridge

A phased planting schedule has been outlined for the ridge, targeting the next three years. The plan focuses on species known for longevity and ecological value, including peepal, banyan, neem, gulmohar, arjun and jamun.

These trees are selected for their ability to survive beyond a hundred years, providing sustained shade, carbon sequestration, and habitat for wildlife. The drive complements the larger 7‑million‑tree campaign and aims to transform the ridge into a resilient urban forest.

Officials expect the new canopy to improve air quality, mitigate heat islands, and serve as a natural buffer against soil erosion, thereby enhancing the overall livability of the capital.
