Delhi Revises Temporary Police Assignment After Harassment Allegations Surface

New Delhi, 6 October – Following a request from Assistant Police Commissioner Vivek Bhagat, the Delhi administration has altered a previously issued directive that assigned an additional Police Commissioner role to a group of senior officers.

The 5 October 2026 order had temporarily placed twelve DANIPS officers in charge of the additional post, with the understanding that the appointment carried no pay increase or legal responsibilities of a full‑time commissioner. Bhagat asked that he not assume the role until the alleged harassment of women journalists is thoroughly examined and a satisfactory conclusion is reached.

In response, the government will issue a revised order that excludes Bhagat, while the other eleven officers will retain their temporary charge. The initial plan was first presented on 25 August, months before the recent media focus on the alleged misconduct.

Officials clarified that the arrangement was purely administrative, short‑lived, and devoid of any financial or statutory benefit. They anticipate publishing the updated order shortly, pending the outcome of the investigation.

No further updates on the probe or any related administrative measures have been disclosed. The government maintains that the decision to allocate additional responsibilities followed normal procedural timelines and was not influenced by the current allegations.
