Delhi Posters Mock Rahul Gandhi Over Defamation Case After Apology
A set of conspicuous posters has appeared on Delhi’s bustling avenues, mocking Rahul Gandhi for his recent apology in a defamation dispute. The visual layout pairs a selfie‑style image of influencer Oori, accompanied by the statement “I am Oori”, with Rahul Gandhi’s photograph overlaid by the phrase “I am sorry”. The material stems from a defamation complaint lodged by Kartikeya Chauhan, the son of Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who alleged that Gandhi hurt his reputation while commenting on the Panama Papers controversy during a 2018 Madhya Pradesh election rally. Following the suit, Gandhi filed a petition in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, expressing regret for the alleged remarks and requesting that both the summons and the criminal defamation proceedings be withdrawn. The court accepted his written apology and directed the closure of the case. Nonetheless, BJP leader Tajinder Bagga seized the moment to circulate the posters on his X account, branding the congress leader a “Mafivira”. The move is part of a broader political narrative that seeks to portray Gandhi as subservient, even as the legal battle has been formally concluded.
