Delhi Police Refuses Permission for UGC Equity Regulation 2026 Protest, Court Steps In

The Delhi Police has turned down a request from the Karnik Sena to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar against the "UGC Equity Regulation 2026". The denial, issued on September 6, is tied to heightened security protocols for the upcoming BRICS summit. In response, the Sena approached the Delhi High Court, seeking an order that would compel the police to allow the demonstration.

The High Court, while hearing the matter, asked the Sena to consider alternative dates for the rally, noting that the police have not presented any concrete security threat. The court has set September 9 for the next hearing and instructed the police to file a detailed response. The Karnik Sena, which champions the rights of the Kshatriya community, maintains that the new UGC rules unfairly affect the Savarna sections of society and has reiterated its demand for an immediate repeal.
