Delhi Police Provide Documents to AISA's Neha Bora at SEM Hearing
New Delhi, October 24: Neha Bora, president of the All India Students' Association (AISA), reached the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court linked to the Mandir Marg Police Station on Saturday. At the hearing, the Delhi Police gave her copies of the documents that were the basis for a show-cause notice issued in a case of apprehended breach of peace.
The SEM court had first issued a notice to Neha Bora, asking why she should not be directed to submit a personal bond for keeping the peace. The action has been taken under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Documents related to the notice were placed before the court during the hearing. The next hearing has been fixed for October 28, and on that day Neha Bora must also file a formal reply to the notice.
The matter is connected to a 'Tiranga Assembly' protest proposed in Delhi on October 16. As security was tightened that day, the Delhi Police detained Neha Bora along with several others. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) had not granted permission for the protest.
On October 17, the SEM issued a notice to Neha Bora and started proceedings to maintain peace. The notice required a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and one surety.
Neha Bora challenged this notice in the Delhi High Court, but on October 23 the High Court dismissed her petition. The court directed that the documents used as the basis of the proceedings be given to her.
The High Court also told the SEM to carefully consider all facts and the available material before issuing any final order. The next hearing is set for October 28, when Neha Bora is due to submit her response.
