Delhi Police Detain Alleged Quack Who Operated on Four‑Year‑Old in Bengal
A man claiming to be a qualified doctor was taken into custody by Delhi police after a tragic surgery in West Bengal claimed the life of a four‑year‑old child. The suspect, Sheikh Saeedul Haq, allegedly performed the procedure at a small clinic in Nawabhat, East Burdwan district, and the child died on the operating table.
Family members filed a complaint, prompting the West Bengal police to issue a lookout notice. Haq spent a few days in Dubai before re‑entering India, where he was arrested at the Delhi airport on Tuesday night.
After the arrest, he was handed over to Bengal police, who flew him back to Kolkata. The investigation now includes probing his medical credentials, as well as possible involvement in other illegal medical practices.
Local medical associations thanked the authorities for acting quickly and called for a thorough crackdown on unqualified practitioners operating in the region.
