In a game-changing move for urban mobility, Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line is undergoing a massive extension that will redefine connectivity in the national capital. Once complete, it will eclipse all others as the longest line at approximately 89 kilometers, running from Botanical Garden in Noida to Indralok, complete with 17 fresh interchange points.
Officials revealed on Wednesday that this strategic expansion, integrated into the approved Phase 4 and 5 plans, includes stretches from R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha via Central Vista and further to Indralok. The upgrade will introduce 65 stations, 40 of which will be subterranean, ensuring minimal surface disruption while maximizing coverage.
The leap from four existing interchanges to 21 is particularly noteworthy. New nodes like IGI Airport Terminal-1, Peeragarhi, Pitampura, Haiderpur Badli Mor, and triple-interchange powerhouses such as Azadpur and Central Secretariat will interconnect with Yellow, Blue, and other lines, slashing transfer times dramatically.
Fully automated and driverless, the corridor promises cutting-edge technology for peak-hour reliability. Anuj Dayal, DMRC’s Principal Executive Director, emphasized its impact: ‘Cross-city travel will become effortless, supporting Delhi-NCR’s economic pulse.’
This initiative arrives at a critical juncture, addressing surging ridership and traffic woes. Commuters from east to west Delhi will benefit immensely, with direct links to key landmarks like Rajiv Chowk equivalents and airport access. As construction ramps up, the Magenta Line heralds a new era of integrated, efficient transit for millions.
