The Delhi High Court has dismissed the bail plea of Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, emphasizing the presence of ‘overwhelming evidence.’ The court stated that the allegations against him appeared to be true prima facie. Shah, who has been in judicial custody since June 2019 in a terror funding case, had his bail application rejected based on a division bench’s decision. The court highlighted that 24 FIRs of a similar nature were filed against Shah and, as chairman of JKDPF, his involvement in unlawful activities could not be ruled out. The High Court considered that Shah, as chairman of the unlawful organization JKDPF, could potentially influence witnesses. The denial follows a trial court’s previous rejection of Shah’s bail in July 2023.
