Delhi Govt Offers Full Subsidy for 3 kW Home Solar Systems

In a move to accelerate clean energy adoption, Delhi’s Chief Minister announced that residents consuming up to 400 units annually will be eligible for a 3 kW rooftop solar installation at no initial cost. The scheme provides a ₹78,000 subsidy from the central government and an identical amount from the state, with additional top‑up funds to cover any remaining cost gap.

The policy specifically benefits families using up to 200 units, who will continue to receive a 100 % electricity subsidy and will also earn an incentive for surplus power fed back to the grid. The system’s operation and five‑year maintenance will be guaranteed by the appointed vendor, while DISCOM will offer an optional 25‑year maintenance package.

Net metering will allow users to offset their electricity bills, and the generated power—approximately 300 units per year—can be sold to the distribution company at its average purchase price. This arrangement enables consumers to both save on electricity expenses and earn from the energy they produce.
