Delhi Collapse: One Dead, Multiple Rescues as CM Reviews Damage

A building in Delhi’s Satyaniketan district collapsed on September 6, killing one person and allowing six others to be rescued so far. The five‑floor edifice, constructed around half a century ago, functioned as a paying‑guest house and had a basement undergoing repair work at the time.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the site, inspected the ruins, and took a comprehensive report from police officers, fire personnel, and medical staff. She called for swift action to evaluate the integrity of older structures throughout the city.

Police statements indicated that the basement renovation might have compromised the building’s stability. A victim rescued from the debris was taken to a major trauma centre where doctors declared him dead.

NSUI leader Vinod Jakhad reported that his team reached the location promptly, freeing three individuals themselves. He warned that more NSUI members could still be trapped.

A student who was on the fourth floor recalled feeling a sudden jolt similar to an earthquake after lunch, followed by clouds of dust. He, along with other students, managed to pull a man from the rubble before emergency squads arrived.

The neighbourhood is in turmoil, with families continuously reaching out to one another. Officials believe that as many as 20‑30 occupants may still be buried, and rescue squads are continuing their search.
