Delhi Authorities Urged to Conduct Independent Probe into Saty Niketan Incident

Delhi, September 7 – The All India Students’ Federation (ABVP) convened a media briefing on Monday to mourn the loss of lives in the Saty Niketan hostel collapse and to press for an independent inquiry. The gathering featured Dr. Veerendra Singh, national general secretary of ABVP, along with state minister Sarath Sharma, national minister Kshama Sharma, and DUSU president Aryan Maan.

ABVP volunteers were among the first responders at the disaster site, assisting rescue squads and offering support to grieving families. The federation conveyed its sincere condolences to those who lost loved ones and expressed wishes for a quick recovery to the injured.

The student body demanded that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner resign and that FIRs be filed against all officials linked to the negligence. Protestors faced a police baton charge that left several activists wounded, including Aryan Maan, and over fifty participants were taken into custody.

ABVP called for a high‑level, unbiased investigation into the construction irregularities, the permission granted for basement digging, and the basis on which the PG operation was approved. The federation also highlighted its earlier memorandum pointing out illegal student housing and PG safety violations, accusing the administration of persistent indifference.

The organization seeks departmental and legal action against anyone found guilty, immediate provision of safe accommodation for displaced students, proper medical treatment for the injured, and just compensation for the families of the deceased. It also urges the government to accelerate structural and fire‑safety audits of all private hostels and to increase the number of secure student residences in Delhi.
