Delhi’s 2026 Green Drive: Massive Tree Planting and EV Bus Rollout

New Delhi – Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the ambitious "Mission 70 Lakh Plantation" on Tuesday, concurrently launching several developmental projects. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Eco‑Restoration Mega Plantation Programme Drive 2026 is a promise to restore nature’s dignity and bring back greenery to places that have lost it over the years.

She recalled that Indian culture has always revered the environment: rivers are mothers, the earth is a mother, mountains are divine, and trees are sacred. These traditions teach us to honor nature before we take from it.

According to Gupta, development and the environment are not opposing forces but supportive pillars. She outlined a future Delhi with wide roads, pollution‑free air, cutting‑edge infrastructure and thriving forests, ensuring economic upliftment while preserving ecological equilibrium.

Delhi’s green cover has now reached 25 percent, and the government has set aside 22 percent of its overall budget for a dedicated green allocation.

The plan also includes adopting Gujarat’s oxygen‑park model, with a target of establishing 100 oxygen parks in the capital; construction has already begun at 18 locations.

Every tree planted in Delhi will be tracked and tagged through an online system, aiming not only for planting but also for ongoing care and conservation.

In a bold transport announcement, the chief minister pledged that by the end of 2026, Delhi’s roads will host 7,000 electric buses, increasing to 14,000 by 2028, reflecting the city’s commitment to become a clean, green, and pollution‑free metropolis.
