Deepanshu Shaukeen Calls for Transparency After Tragic Campus Incident

Following his election as deputy vice‑president of Delhi University’s student union, Independent candidate Deepanshu Shaukeen used his platform to demand greater transparency from university authorities. He highlighted the recent Satya Niketan disaster, which claimed five student lives, as a stark reminder of systemic lapses.

Shaukeen urged the administration to adopt accountable procedures, improve safety protocols, and keep the student community informed about corrective measures.

He also reflected on the broader political landscape, noting that the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) suffered a defeat because its leadership failed to engage directly with students on the ground. According to Shaukeen, those who stay close to the electorate can better anticipate needs and respond effectively.

Addressing circulating rumors about a pre‑arranged plan to position him as the NSUI presidential candidate, Shaukeen clarified that the election featured three independent contenders and that no such arrangement existed.

He called out Kanhiya Kumar, a senior party figure, for not taking ownership of campaign decisions, suggesting that a clear, on‑site assessment could have altered the vote tally.

Regarding Rahul Gandhi’s "Students' Echo" outreach, Shaukeen praised the effort to connect with youth but stressed that it must translate into tangible action at the college level.
