Deepak Khatri’s Custody Extended Amid Arms‑Smuggling Probe

The Rouj Avenue Court in Delhi has extended the police custody of attorney Deepak Khatri by five days, bringing the total time he will spend under police control to eight days. Khatri, a member of the legal team defending Lawrence Bishnoi, was initially held for three days before being presented to the court on Saturday.

He was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for alleged involvement in the illegal supply of firearms and "rangdari" activities linked to the Bishnoi gang. DCP Sanjeev Yadav confirmed that the 45‑year‑old Khatri, also referred to as "Mama," has been associated with the gang for the past ten years and is now under scrutiny for a role in an arms‑smuggling case.

Further details from a police source reveal that Khatri earned a degree from Venkateshwar Group of Institutions in Meerut two years ago, subsequently joining the Delhi Bar Council and practicing in lower courts. Prior to his current legal work, he reportedly facilitated client arrangements and acted as a point of contact for lawyers operating in Delhi’s lower courts.
