Deep‑Sea Operations Boosted as Nipun Commissioned

Commissioned on August 31, the indigenously constructed dive support vessel Nipun expands the Indian Navy’s reach into the ocean’s deeper zones. Equipped with modern submersible support systems, the ship can sustain divers for long durations, conduct underwater inspections, and intervene in distress situations involving submarines. Admiral Krishna Swaminathan noted that the vessel adds a new layer of capability across surface, subsurface, and under‑water domains. With a displacement of about 9,000 tonnes, Nipun also brings advanced navigation tools that maintain accurate positioning during intricate rescue drills, thereby improving the navy’s overall preparedness for undersea contingencies.
