DCP Meena Details Immediate Demolition Orders Following Tragedy
During a briefing with media, DCP Rajendra Prasad Meena of Shahdara district explained the steps taken after the Semapuri collapse.
He noted that a neighbouring building had already been marked as hazardous. When the four‑storey structure gave way, part of it collided with the adjacent property, shattering balconies and walls. MCD served the owner a notice on Friday, granting only two hours before a bulldozer would level the building.
Police provided security for the demolition crew, ensuring no further casualties. The investigation into the collapse is ongoing, and efforts to locate the building’s owner continue, as the individual is currently evading arrest.
The rescue operation concluded by 2 p.m. on Thursday, and the victims’ identities have been confirmed by officials.
