Dausa Highway Gorge Accident Leaves Four Dead, Two Critical

Jaipur, October 23: Four people died and two were grievously hurt when a car went off the road and tumbled into a deep gorge on the Dausa-Manoharpur National Highway near Raisar in Rajasthan on Friday morning.

The car was carrying six people who were travelling back to Agra after a pilgrimage to Khatu Shyamji, officials said. Around 6 am, while passing through the Raisar police station limits, one of the tyres burst. The driver could not keep the vehicle under control, and it dropped into the gorge.

Police reached the spot after getting information and, with assistance from local people, took out those stuck inside the car. The wounded were sent to hospital in an ambulance, and the bodies were placed in the mortuary of the government hospital.

Raisar Police Station In-charge Rajpal Singh said the accident was triggered by a burst tyre. Those killed were identified as Atul, Mukul, Rupesh and Shiva, all residents of Agra. Rahul and Arpit, also travelling in the car, were badly injured and admitted to a private hospital.

The mishap disrupted traffic on the national highway for about an hour, as long lines of vehicles built up along both sides of the road.

After the injured were moved, police personnel restored the flow of traffic. The damaged car was later retrieved from the gorge with a crane.

In another incident in Dausa district, a loading tempo carrying passengers from Delhi to Kota left the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway early Friday and overturned into a roadside ditch, injuring five people.

The injured have been named as Noorjahan, Jakat Ali, Kunal, Ajay and driver Vijaypal. All are residents of Kota and work installing amusement swings at fairs. They are being treated at the Dausa district hospital. Police said the driver had dozed off while driving, which led to the accident.
