Dalits and Constitution Cited in Debate Over Ramdev’s Statements
Baba Ramdev’s recent appearance at a Delhi University event included remarks that linked the Hindu nation with a shared ancestral heritage, claiming that Muslims are also Sanatan and that the true ethnic roots of India are Dravidian. He assured the crowd that Muslims need not fear the concept of a Hindu nation.
The comments were met with criticism from Maulana Mustak Malik of the Tahrik Muslim Sabha, who called Ramdev a polarising figure spreading hatred. Malik insisted that such narratives threaten social harmony and the country’s forward trajectory.
Maulana Siraj Khan added that the Constitution, drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, is the guiding framework for the nation and that no one has the right to question it. He argued that individuals with pending legal cases lack the moral standing to issue public admonitions.
Khan also referred to Maulana Arshad Madani’s claim that Islam regards the Prophet as the first human, indicating that Ramdev’s historical references do not align with established religious teachings.
