From 1810 Construction to Modern Revamp: The Legacy of Daksh Prajapati Temple

The foundation stone of the present Daksh Prajapati Mahadev shrine was laid in 1810 by Queen Dhanakaur, a patron of Shaivism. After more than a century of wear, the temple underwent extensive reconstruction in 1962, preserving its classic nagara architecture while adding new sanctum walls.

Today, the temple complex includes a separate sanctified spot identified as the exact location where Sati abandoned her mortal form in the yogic fire. The site is a magnet for historians and spiritual seekers alike, who come to contemplate the ancient tale of devotion, sacrifice, and Shiva’s cosmic dance.
