Customs Seizes Nearly 300 g of Gold at Ahmedabad Airport After AIU Profiling

Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport saw a major customs bust on Wednesday when the Airport Intelligence Unit (AIU) flagged three incoming passengers based on profiling data. The resulting raid uncovered 299.49 grams of gold jewelry, with a combined market valuation of ₹49,23,602.

The first seizure involved an Abu Dhabi passenger traveling on Etihad Airways EY‑246. Two hidden 24‑carat gold chains weighing 100.060 g were recovered, estimated at ₹16,72,003. Next, a Sharjah couple on Air Arabia G9‑418 was stopped; officers found four 24‑carat bangles and two chains, together weighing 140.030 g and valued at ₹23,41,739.

The third case concerned a Kuwait Airways KE‑347 traveler. Her belongings included a gold necklace, two earrings, a ring and a pendant chain, all 22‑carat, totaling 59.400 g and priced at ₹9,09,860.

All items were confiscated under the Customs Act, 1962. This seizure follows a similar AIU‑initiated operation two days earlier, where customs seized a 499.540‑gram 24‑carat gold chain hidden inside a sweater from a Sharjah‑origin passenger.
