Crop scientists gather to tackle nematode threats in Bihar

Bihar Agricultural University, Patna, hosted a one‑day brainstorming session on September 19 to address nematode‑induced problems in agronomic and horticultural crops. The event, overseen by the Research Directorate and the Entomology Department, focused on novel, integrated control approaches. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Anil Kumar Singh, Research Director. The keynote lecture was presented by Dr. Nishi Keshri from Rajendra Prasad Central University, who detailed the economic importance of nematodes, the extent of damage across grain and garden crops, and cutting‑edge integrated management practices. Over 80 stakeholders participated, including Administrative Director Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Principal Dr. Ruby Rani, Deputy Director of Research Dr. Chanda Kushwaha, Entomology Chair Dr. Kiran Kumari, Plant Pathology Chair Dr. J. N. Srivastava, along with faculty and postgraduate students. Speakers warned that climate variability is intensifying nematode pressures and urged students to consider agri‑entrepreneurship in plant protection. Calls were made for a coordinated action plan to combat worldwide nematode challenges, and for increased scientific support to curb horticultural infestations. The session opened with a lamp‑lighting ceremony, a welcome address by Organising Secretary Dr. Anukaran Sahu, and was moderated by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma. Dr. Ramanuj Vishwakarma closed the programme by thanking everyone for their contributions.
