Criticism Over BDA Headquarters Revamp as BJP Calls It Wasteful

Senior BJP leader R. Ashok used the occasion of Chief Minister D.K. Shivkumar’s 100‑day celebration to launch a scathing critique of the Bangalore Development Authority’s (BDA) proposed headquarters revamp. He argued that the city’s fundamental infrastructure deficits have been ignored while the authority plans a costly 30‑storey tower.

Ashok pointed out that many BDA colonies still suffer from poor road conditions, insufficient water supply, and a lack of basic civic facilities. Yet the authority is considering spending roughly ₹110 crore to replace existing buildings, which he claims are structurally sound, with a new skyscraper.

He warned that the demolition of older, well‑maintained structures would be a misallocation of resources. Moreover, the project threatens the green cover of Kumara Park West and could intensify traffic congestion on T. Chowdiah Road, an area already plagued by bottlenecks.

The BJP representative urged the state government to redirect funds toward repairing roads, improving water distribution, and enhancing public services. "Build roads before towers, provide amenities before monuments," he said, emphasizing that citizens’ needs should precede any display of bureaucratic pride.
