Crisis of Corruption: CBI Seizes Cash and Jewellery in Separate Bribery Cases

Two high‑profile bribery cases have spotlighted the CBI’s intensified focus on public‑sector corruption. In the railway case, a senior mechanical engineer from the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers was caught accepting ₹50,000 as the first instalment of a ₹2 lakh demand. The money was transferred through an intermediary who was also taken into custody.

A detailed search of the engineer’s homes and office spaces in Raipur and Bilaspur turned up nearly ₹77 lakh in cash and jewellery worth around ₹14 lakh, suggesting a larger pattern of illicit wealth accumulation. These discoveries come alongside the J&K police officer arrest, underscoring the agency’s commitment to rooting out bribery across multiple jurisdictions.
