Court Sends Accused Volunteer to Police Custody Following Rape Complaint

A civil volunteer from Habra, West Bengal, was taken to police custody after a court hearing on Wednesday. The Barasat Court, acting on a rape complaint filed by a female coworker, directed that the accused spend five days in police detention.

The victim recounted that the accused secretly photographed her during a uniform change and later used those images to blackmail her into sexual relations. He threatened to circulate the pictures if she refused or spoke out, effectively subjecting her to repeated sexual exploitation.

Following the victim's written complaint, the Habra police launched an investigation, leading to the volunteer's arrest. District officials confirmed that the case includes multiple charges such as rape, intimidation, and threats. The volunteer has been removed from his duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
