In its ruling, the Supreme Court made it clear that the decision to raise the compensation for Khan is driven by the unique circumstances of his 28‑year fight, and it should not be treated as a template for future disputes. The bench warned lower courts not to cite this award as a benchmark for unrelated employment cases.
Justice Bhuia noted that the employee’s lengthy litigation, the period in which he could have returned to service, and the statutory framework under the Industrial Disputes Act were decisive factors in arriving at the ₹7.5 million figure.
