Court Orders No Independent CA Appointment Pending Further Review

In its interim ruling, the Supreme Court directed that the Comptroller and Auditor General will not proceed with the audit of the regulatory assets of Delhi’s power distribution firms until the legal issue is clarified. The order also bars the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission from appointing an independent chartered accountant as previously ordered by the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity. The bench highlighted that the audit’s scope, linked to the 2011‑2014 tariff orders, remains unsettled, and referred the matter to the Chief Justice of India for allocation to an appropriate bench for a detailed hearing.
