Court‑Ordered Raid Captures Badri Dar’s Son Over Fake Migrant Land Deals

In a high‑profile operation ordered by the Srinagar Sub‑Judge, the Economic Offences Wing seized Gulam Mohi‑Uddin Dar, son of Abdul Khalik Dar, for orchestrating a fake migrant land scheme valued at ₹93 lakh. The raid took place in Budgam’s Jawaharpura locality after police obtained a warrant based on a written grievance.

Dar had managed to avoid detention for more than twelve months despite several criminal complaints lodged at the local police station. The most recent FIR, numbered 17/2026, lists offences under sections 318(4), 338, 340 and 61(2).

The complaint detailed how Dar, together with accomplice Somnath Kaul, convinced a victim to part with ₹93 lakh by promising ownership of agricultural plots and trees that never existed. Specifically, the fraud involved five Kanal of land in Drusuk, Pulwama, and the sale of 300 standing trees in Bijbehara.

The duo fabricated sale agreements and opened a bank account on the same day the transaction occurred to quickly move the stolen money. They presented themselves as legitimate owners and legal representatives, luring unsuspecting buyers into the trap.

Law enforcement has now issued a H & C notice to the still‑at‑large co‑accused Somnath Kaul, while the investigation expands to uncover the full extent of the network behind the scam.
