Court Notes That Millions of Maharashtra Voters Remain Unlisted in SAR Exercise
The upcoming Supreme Court hearing will examine the credibility of Maharashtra's Social Audit Register, a tool intended to clean up the electoral roll. Shiv Sena's Sanjay Nirupam disclosed that the SAR exercise, although declared successful, failed to include about 27 million voters in its final mapping. Detailed scrutiny uncovered that 3.7 million voters are deceased, 1.8 million have their names scattered across multiple polling districts, and roughly 7.5 million have been duplicated due to location shifts. These discrepancies, according to Nirupam, could lead to a substantial number of eligible voters being denied their franchise. He reaffirmed the party’s confidence in the Supreme Court's ability to deliver a fair decision and called for safeguards against any arbitrary removal of voter names.
