Court Clears Rahul Gandhi in Sultanpur Defamation Matter

A special court in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has cleared Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, of charges in a defamation case involving alleged objectionable remarks against Home Minister Amit Shah.

The verdict was delivered on Monday by the special MP-MLA court. The complaint dates back to 2018, when Amit Shah was the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The court ruled that the remarks made by Rahul Gandhi did not come under the definition of defamation. Rahul Gandhi was present in the courtroom when the decision was announced, and the case has now concluded at this level.

Congress leaders have welcomed the verdict. They have argued that cases filed against Rahul Gandhi were meant to divert his focus and consume his time.

Manickam Tagore, Tamil Nadu Congress president and a Member of Parliament, reacted to the verdict by calling the Sultanpur case a fake defamation complaint. He alleged that the BJP filed it to waste the time of both Rahul Gandhi and the judiciary.

While welcoming the court's decision, Tagore called on the BJP and the RSS to end such actions. He said freedom of expression should not be stopped.

Tagore also described Rahul Gandhi as a leader who is not afraid of legal proceedings. He said Rahul Gandhi would keep speaking on issues that matter to the people of the country.

According to Tagore, more than 45 cases had been registered against Rahul Gandhi across India by people associated with the BJP. He claimed the purpose was to make him run from one court to another. He said Rahul Gandhi was fighting for the people of India and for the truth.

Tagore expressed hope that the BJP would not repeat such petty politics in the future.
