Court Allows Temporary Freedom to Accused Linked to ISIS-K Activity

In a significant development, the Supreme Court has permitted a temporary release for a man arrested under an NIA investigation into activities tied to the terrorist outfit Islamic State Khorasan Province. The accused, taken into custody on October 7, 2020, has been held for more than five years.

The bench, comprising Justices M.M. Sundresh and Augustine George Masih, considered the petitioner’s plea that his minor child suffers from a bilateral cochlear‑implant condition and that his mother requires medical attention. Additionally, a brother’s potential eye operation was factored into the decision.

The court ordered a ten‑day interim bail, effective from September 11 to September 21, with the condition that the accused report to jail officials by the evening of September 21. The NIA was directed to provide police escort at its own cost.
