Courage and Calculated Risk: PM Modi's Message on Success

New Delhi, October 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a subhashit on social media on Tuesday, offering a message on how facing challenges can lead to the peak of success.

The Prime Minister's post carried the Sanskrit shloka: "न संशयमनारुह्य नरो भद्राणि पश्यति। संशयं पुनरारुह्य यदि जीवति पश्यति॥" The Hindi interpretation of the verse is that a person who does not summon the courage to meet challenges will find success difficult to attain. But a person who advances steadily through crises with courage, patience and self-belief will ultimately reach the summit of success.

This well-known verse is taken from the 34th shloka of the 138th chapter of the Shanti Parva in the Mahabharata. The central teaching is that taking risks is essential for great success or achieving a goal. Major accomplishments do not come without venturing into uncertain territory.

The shloka suggests that a human being who never enters a zone of danger or risk (sanshaya) cannot witness true welfare or the finest outcomes. Real success and happiness become visible only when a person takes on a risk or hardship and survives it. Thus, significant achievement and progress in life depend on the willingness to confront uncertainty.

The verse also makes clear that risk-taking should be guided by complete wisdom and caution. This approach helps a person overcome a crisis, stay safe, and enjoy the rewards of their effort.

Through this social media message, the Prime Minister has urged people to face challenges with resolve and reach the heights of success.
