Cotton exports reach $11.5 billion, U.S. remains top market

In FY 2024‑25, India exported an estimated 1.8 million bolls of cotton, equivalent to 0.31 million metric tonnes. This volume represented about 3.37 percent of the world’s total cotton exports of 5.4169 million bolls.

Export earnings crossed $11.49 billion, underscoring the commodity’s significance for foreign‑exchange earnings. The United States absorbed the largest share of Indian cotton shipments at 26.35 percent, followed by Bangladesh (19.81 percent) and Sri Lanka (5.11 percent). The United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates each accounted for just over two percent of the export basket.

The diversity of destination markets reflects steady international demand for Indian cotton and related textile products.
