Corruption Crackdown: 15,000 Rupee Bribe Leads to Arrest in West Champaran

The Bihar Monitoring Investigation Bureau (BIB) has intensified its crackdown on local corruption after apprehending a Panchayat Secretary in West Champaran. Shankar Prasad, the secretary of Dumaria Panchayat, was caught accepting a bribe of fifteen thousand rupees to release pending payments for a water‑pipe repair job completed by Reteex Enterprises.

The allegation originated from a grievance filed by Parvej Kausar, who accused the official of demanding money before clearing the contractor’s invoice. After a thorough verification, BIB set up a covert operation at a cooperation camp in Maladhia Madrasa, Narakatiaganj. The trap, overseen by Sub‑Inspector Kripal Chand Jaiswal, resulted in the official’s arrest on August 5.

The incident is documented under FIR No. 092/26 dated July 31, 2026, marking the 92nd FIR of the year and the 85th trap case. The accused is currently under interrogation and will be forwarded to the Special Monitoring Court in Muzaffarpur.

To date, the bureau’s sting operations have led to 87 arrests and the seizure of Rs 31,66,800 in illicit cash. Officials affirmed that the anti‑corruption drive will remain relentless.
