Coordinated Rescue Saves Traveler in Uttarakhand Flooded River

A sudden rise in river water near Vasudhara Waterfall in Chamoli district turned a routine pilgrimage into a life‑threatening situation on August 14. A Kanpur resident heading to Badrinath found himself unable to return across the swollen stream.

The alarm was raised by a local hotel proprietor, prompting Constable Chandan Nagar to alert the Kotwali Shri Badrinath police and an SDRF unit. While the official teams raced to the location, nearby youths organized themselves, constructing a temporary wooden footbridge using available timber.

They also ensured the visitor had access to nourishment and hydration while awaiting professional assistance.

Upon arrival, the police and SDRF coordinated with the volunteers, evaluated the safest crossing route, and guided the traveler across the improvised bridge. He was then safely transferred to the Kotwali side and handed over to the authorities.

The successful outcome demonstrated how synchronized efforts between law enforcement, rapid response forces, and community volunteers can effectively mitigate emergencies in mountainous terrain.
