Congress Questions SIT Head Choice Amid Ram Temple Probe

New Delhi, July 10 – During a media interaction, Congress member Supriya Srinet raised serious doubts about the appointment of Vijay Vishwas Pant as head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Ram Temple controversy. She reminded the floor that a First Information Report (FIR) for fraud had already been lodged against Pant, questioning the government's judgment in selecting him.

The party demanded that the SIT report be made public, accusing the administration of a cover‑up. Srinet also asserted that the alleged seventy thefts reported in a span of forty days constitute an unprecedented spike in criminal activity linked to the temple project.

In addition to the SIT controversy, the congress criticised the broader handling of the temple’s finances by the BJP and RSS, describing it as an attack on the faith of millions of Hindus who contributed their earnings.

The congress also queried why the Trust’s General Secretary Champat Rai Bansal and his colleague Anil Mishra were sidelined from investigative processes, and why a private security service costing one crore rupees per month was engaged despite the deployment of Uttar Pradesh police and central security forces at the site.

Lastly, Srinet called out the Trust’s treasurer Govind Giri, who claimed he lives outside Ayodhya and hires an external auditor for merely five days a month, arguing that such arrangements betray the responsibilities owed to the devotees.
