Congress Orders District-Level Satyagraha to Reject Discriminatory Rituals

The Indian National Congress has mobilised its cadres across Uttarakhand for a coordinated march and satyagraha, scheduled for the evening of Friday, 14 August 2026. The protest targets a "purification" ceremony performed by Hindu nationalist organisations at a site where former party chief Mallikarjun Khadge had previously addressed a public meeting.

K.C. Venugopal, the party's national general secretary, wrote to Congress workers describing the ceremony as a repulsive act rooted in an exclusionary mindset propagated by the ruling party. He warned that such actions undermine the constitutional guarantees of equality, social justice and human dignity.

Each District Congress Committee has been instructed to organise a sizable march, concluding with a peaceful satyagraha next to statues of Mahatma Gandhi or Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The gathering aims to publicly condemn the discriminatory ritual and reaffirm unwavering support for Khadge and the party's inclusive ideals.

The appeal extends to block committees, frontline organisations, departmental units, elected representatives, senior leaders and all levels of Congress activists. By assembling large crowds, the party seeks to convey a strong message that any attempt to dilute the Constitution's promise of equal treatment will be firmly resisted.
