In a blistering attack, Congress parliamentarian Imran Pratapgarhi has accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of deliberately spoiling India’s communal harmony through inflammatory social media content. Speaking exclusively, Pratapgarhi said the CM’s post-oath rhetoric is a blatant violation of constitutional values, fueling national discord.
‘PM’s most favored chief minister wants to destroy the country’s environment. Is the PM blind to this or feigning ignorance? Strict action is needed to affirm constitutional loyalty,’ Pratapgarhi stated emphatically.
He drew attention to the provocative video shared by Assam BJP coinciding with PM Modi’s diplomatic engagement in Malaysia. ‘This content attacks our Constitution and democracy, even provoking mass violence. Astonishingly, no party action against Sarma, no court intervention—BJP must clarify its position,’ he pressed, tagging top leaders for responses.
Pratapgarhi bemoaned the media’s blackout: ‘If an opposition leader spoke like a fascist tyrant or terrorist, channels would erupt. Yet, this CM’s hate speech gets prime time immunity.’
On the state government’s probe, he scoffed, ‘What’s the SIT doing—endless briefings without proof? It’s all a sham for poll gains.’ As tensions simmer, this episode highlights concerns over hate speech by ruling figures and demands for judicial scrutiny, potentially reshaping Assam’s political narrative.
