Congress Leaders Challenge BJP Claims On Jobs And Democracy
Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s recent observations on the central government’s democratic record have garnered strong backing from Congress MP Imran Masood. Masood stated that the ruling regime has severely compromised democratic norms and that healing these wounds will be a slow and arduous process.
Masood further criticized the BJP’s Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy initiative, noting its lackluster reception in Uttar Pradesh. He highlighted that despite holding state power, the party is failing to mobilize crowds. He also directed a warning toward the Election Commission, suggesting that authorities who exploit their positions for personal gain will ultimately answer to the people.
Responding to BJP national president Nitin Narendra’s statements, Masood exposed what he called deliberate misinformation regarding job creation. He questioned the validity of the nine lakh job figure and called for an itemized, district-level release of appointments to prove accountability. He argued that vague announcements only serve to distract the electorate.
Emphasizing policy differences, Masood noted that Congress consistently champions national interests, youth development, and environmental protection, unlike the BJP’s inward-looking agenda. Speaking on Delhi’s toxic air quality, he remarked that curbing pollution requires societal behavioral change alongside government action, as it is not solely within administrative control.
On the ground in Kochi, Congress leader Udita Raj discussed the Congress Jan Morcha demonstrations. He called for unwavering scrutiny of the Election Commission, dismissing claims that Congress-led state governments ensure perfectly clean electoral rolls. He reiterated that the EC alone holds the constitutional responsibility for voter list management.
Raj also addressed the deteriorating social fabric, drawing a direct comparison between contemporary discrimination against Muslims and past marginalization of Dalit communities. He observed that urban housing markets now mirror this exclusion, with rentals and sales increasingly restricted by community background. He cited Haryana’s polarizing 36 castes versus one caste narrative as a clear outcome of current BJP policies.
Clarifying media speculation about Rahul Gandhi’s recent Diwali function, Masood confirmed that no political speeches were delivered. The gathering was strictly a personal exchange of festival greetings, focusing on informal community interaction rather than campaign messaging.
