Congress Leader Sunder Sham Arora Faces ED Raid at Hoshiarpur Home

Central probe agency the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has raided the Hoshiarpur residence of Sunder Sham Arora, a prominent Congress leader and former Punjab cabinet minister.

The ED team arrived at Arora's home at around 5 am on Monday and began examining the premises. Arora was inside the house at the time of the visit.

Visuals of the operation indicate that three to four vehicles carrying central agency officials reached the spot. CRPF jawans were deployed alongside the officers for security.

Detailed information regarding the raid is still awaited. The ED has not clarified which case is being pursued or what exactly is being done during the search. Officials have yet to issue any formal statement on the matter.

Arora has previously been the subject of inquiries by agencies. The Income Tax Department and the Vigilance Bureau had both looked into his affairs. As a minister, he was also accused of serious corruption and scam charges in several matters.

One high-profile episode saw the Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrest Arora over an alleged Rs 50 lakh bribe paid to a vigilance officer. The case remains under judicial consideration, and other allegations against him continue to be probed.

Since the ED raid on Monday morning, the political climate in Hoshiarpur has heated up. Investigators are currently scrutinising documents inside the house. Sources have suggested the action may relate to a money laundering case, though a complete understanding will depend on the official disclosure from the agency.
