Congress Faces Apology Demand After Kharge's Remark on Modi's Father
Lucknow, October 25: A controversy has erupted after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made a remark about the late father of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event in Patna, Bihar. BJP leader Pankaj Chaudhary, who serves as Uttar Pradesh BJP President and Union Minister of State for Finance, has responded with a pointed statement.
Chaudhary described the comment as a sign of political frustration and ethical bankruptcy within Congress. He noted that opposing political rivals is part of the democratic process, yet targeting the deceased parent of any person crosses a line that Indian society has long considered sacred.
He called upon Kharge to publicly apologise to the people of India. Chaudhary also highlighted what he described as a pattern of personal hostility within Congress towards Prime Minister Modi. He pointed to earlier instances of objectionable language directed at Modi's mother and said that the latest remark about his late father followed the same trend.
The BJP leader stressed that the matter goes beyond one individual or family. In his view, it undermines the values of respect for parents and the departed that are central to Indian culture. He maintained that the government's policies, decisions and functioning can be questioned in a democracy, but political disagreement should not be transformed into personal loathing.
Chaudhary further said that the recent language used by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi against the elected Prime Minister and democratic institutions is also unbecoming. He advised Congress to introspect and decide whether it intends to act as a positive opposition on public issues or continue relying on personal allegations to maintain its political relevance. He asserted that the public evaluates every party on its conduct, and that personal insults can earn neither public trust nor public backing.
