Congress Demands Special FIR Over Alleged Illegal Use of Palette Gun

The Congress party has formally requested that the Delhi police file a special FIR covering the alleged illegal deployment of a palette gun during the recent protests at Jantar‑Mantarr and Connaught Place.

Party spokespersons argue that the standard complaint procedure does not capture the gravity of the incident, which resulted in numerous injuries to Sahil Lochab, a participant in the Cockroach Janata Party rally. They claim the weapon’s use violates both the Arms Act and the Supreme Court’s guidelines on non‑lethal crowd‑control measures.

Senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have said that the FIR should specifically address the suspected violation of weapon‑handling protocols and the accountability of the officers who authorized the deployment. They have also demanded that the investigation be overseen by an independent agency to ensure transparency.

The Congress delegation indicated that talks are ongoing with the Home Secretary, the Delhi Police Commissioner and the Union Home Minister, but they have yet to receive a clear response on the filing of the special FIR.
