Congress CM Post Up for Grabs, Says BJP After Karnataka Change

New Delhi, May 28: Within hours of Siddaramaiah’s resignation as Karnataka Chief Minister, the BJP launched a stinging attack on the Congress, accusing it of running a “highest-bidder-wins” system for the state’s top post. Party leaders insist the episode exposes a deeper rot in how the opposition party distributes power. Speaking to the media, Gaurav Vallabh likened the process to government tendering, where the leader offering the strongest internal support base or resources emerges victorious. He claimed Siddaramaiah lost because his “bid” proved weaker, turning a constitutional office into what the BJP called a tradable commodity. Vallabh further questioned the credibility of the INDIA bloc, noting that its partners fight separate electoral battles in multiple states. Without a cohesive front, he said, any claim that Rahul Gandhi leads the alliance lacks substance and risks misleading voters. BJP spokesperson R.P. Singh added that governance in Karnataka has already begun to suffer. He pointed to delayed civic projects in Bengaluru, sluggish file movement in secretariat departments, and growing public frustration over unaddressed civic issues. Singh warned that continued infighting will only deepen the governance deficit in the state.
