Congress’s Recent By‑election Setbacks Highlighted by Giriraj Singh
Union minister Giriraj Singh seized the floor of the Lok Sabha to spotlight the Congress party’s recent electoral failures. He pointed to three assembly by‑elections and a single parliamentary by‑poll where the party’s performance was negligible, with candidates even surrendering their security deposits.
Singh emphasized that the party has remained out of power for more than thirty years across nine states, a trend he said reflects a deep‑seated disconnect with voters. He also cited the Tripura gram sabha results, where out of roughly 4,500 village meetings, only fourteen seats were won by Congress candidates, underscoring a weak grassroots network.
According to Singh, Rahul Gandhi appears to believe that a dramatic political crisis could trigger a coup similar to those witnessed in Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, a scenario Singh dismissed as implausible.
The minister warned that Gandhi’s credibility is waning, noting that several senior party figures have recently withdrawn their support for his leadership, while the opposition continues to raise allegations of vote tampering.
