Compensation package announced for victims of Kolkata Durga Puja tragedy
The West Bengal government has released a detailed compensation package for families affected by the Durga Puja stampede in Kolkata. Each family of a deceased victim will receive a financial grant of INR 25 lakh, along with a guaranteed government job for one member of the family. Injured individuals receiving treatment will be awarded INR 5 lakh each.
In addition to state assistance, the central government has pledged support through the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. The fund will provide INR 2 lakh to each family of a deceased person and INR 50,000 to each injured survivor.
Officials said the relief measures aim to alleviate the immediate financial burden on the victims and to ensure long‑term stability for the affected families.
