Colonel Anil Bhatia Shares Grandfather’s Surgeon Role After Jallianwala Bagh

Colonel Anil Bhatia took the stage to speak about his grandfather, Dr. Isha Das Bhatia, a surgeon based in Amritsar during the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. According to the Colonel, the doctor operated on dozens of wounded under the dim glow of lanterns, extracting bullets and documenting each case as evidence.

He explained that Dr. Bhatia compiled registers of the injured and handed them over to British officials, though the original documents later disappeared. Some of the recovered ammunition was subsequently submitted to a Congress committee in Lahore. Despite a curfew imposed across Punjab, the doctor risked his safety to deliver the evidence, a task that may have involved the noted freedom fighter Madan Mohan Malviya in the investigative process.
