Cold Murder Case Solved: Dinesh Desai Captured in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, September 20 — A cold case from 2002 reached its conclusion when the Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested Dinesh Desai, 54, who had been a wanted fugitive for 24 years. Desai was found hiding in the Vejalpur area after police pieced together his movements through a series of informant tips and digital forensics.

Desai was implicated in the killing of Dalaram Nai in Dungli village, Pali district, Rajasthan. The murder was reportedly the outcome of a bitter property and business dispute between two branches of the same family. According to the FIR, Desai and three accomplices used a four‑wheeler to reach Pali and deliberately struck Nai's motorcycle, causing a fatal accident.

Inspector AP Jebalia, who heads the Crime Branch unit, said the investigation also uncovered three other suspects, one of whom, Ramesh Nai, is a relative of Desai and allegedly participated in the planning of the homicide.

The case has been registered under IPC sections 302, 120(B), 481 and 308. Following the arrests, the suspects will be handed over to the Rajasthan police for trial, while further inquiries will explore any support networks that enabled Desai to remain at large for more than two decades.
